The Minister of Local Government Administration of Kosovo (MAPL), Elbert Krasniqi, said that the resignation of the Albanian mayors of the four municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo is only a request of Belgrade.
Krasniqi stressed at a press conference in Pristina that "we are not here to take care of Belgrade's demands", insisting that the mayors can only be removed from office through a new administrative instruction.
"In the past, the mayors in the north of the country have been at the disposal of the Serbian List and criminal groups and never at the disposal of the citizens, administrative guidance is a democratic process... and everything else is not a request of the citizens there or the mayors of the municipalities, they are the requests of Belgrade ", said Krasniqi.
While the American emissary Gabriel Escobarit declared that their resignation is the best way for early elections in the north.
Escobar said that the fastest and easiest way for new elections in the north of Kosovo would be if the current Albanian leaders resign.
