Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that on May 29, violent extremist and criminal groups in the three northern municipalities of Kosovo used hand grenades and stun grenades produced in Serbia and brought from that country.

Kurti, in a post on Twitter, said that KFOR soldiers, Kosovo Police and journalists who were reporting on the tensions in the north were attacked with the same ones.

"Violent extremist and criminal groups in 3 northern municipalities on May 29 used SRB (Slavko Rudojić Bugojno) M75 hand grenades and RŠB (Ručna Šok Bomba) P98 hand grenades, both produced and imported from Serbia, injuring dozens of Serbian soldiers. NATO, Kosovo policemen and journalists", wrote Kurti.

Kurti further said that there should be no illegal structures and criminal activities in the north, adding that only under such conditions can the new elections be held.

Kurti told France24 that the political legitimacy is weak due to the low voter turnout, but according to him, the rest there has no legitimacy at all.

"These 4 mayors who were elected in the north will not be re-elected. These elections will be held when there is a law. There can be no free elections without the extension of the law. Serbs have left the institutions thinking that our state system will collapse, but this has not happened. If these municipal buildings are not for mayors, then who are they for? We are the most democratic country in the Western Balkans", he said.

He added that they have reached an agreement with Serbia, but there is no implementation of it because of Belgrade.
