Burns arrived in the capital of Sarajevo on August 20, where he met with colleagues from the intelligence community, members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as that country's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

They discussed issues of mutual interest, including the territorial integrity and sovereignty of BiH, but also "the disturbing separatist rhetoric and actions of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and the Government of Republika Srpska," as a US government official told N1 Sarajevo.
