The closure of Serbian banks, Kurti responds to the USA: They were carrying out

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has responded to the USA and the EU regarding the closure of 6 branches of the Postal Savings Bank in the four northern municipalities with a Serbian majority.

The Government of Kosovo says that the operation to close them came after the suspicions that illegal financial activity was taking place.

"As for the reaction, I am not aware of the details. However, every action is based on legality and the extent of sovereignty in every corner of the country", said Hekuran Murati, Minister of Finance.

During the operation, among other things, 1.6 million euros and over 74 million dinars were confiscated, for which it was said that the justice system will decide on these.

"Financial activity can be any activity without the necessary license, regardless of the destination of the funds. The destination of the means is then the second step for which the law enforcement agencies and the prosecution had to provide sufficient evidence for where the means were dedicated. Even if there was a license, we would have to make sure who the beneficiaries are and the funds are used for legitimate purposes. All this belongs to the law enforcement agencies ," he said.

Minister Murati also said that the Kosovar side had offered to find a solution through several proposals in Brussels for Serbia to send their financial aid through legal channels, but according to him, they were rejected by the official Belgrade.

"We as a government have offered constructive proposals with several proposals, but apparently the Serbian side was not ready. They had other goals, they did not have goals to make life easier for citizens and to enable transfers for those citizens", said Murati.

On May 20, the Kosovo Police closed six units of the Postal Savings Bank of Serbia in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. The US State Department expressed disappointment over the closure of the bank's units, saying that "this action was not coordinated with international partners" and that it "escalates tensions". The harshest reactions regarding the closure of financial institutions in the north came from Belgrade when there were also threats of armed conflicts.
