Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti called the opposition's blocking of Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker of the Parliament an archaic mindset. He said that the woman who received the most votes from the people of Kosovo in the February 9 elections is being attacked because she is a woman.
"This situation reflects the confrontation with hierarchical, patriarchal and backward structures. The fight against the GVV president is not only a political or party clash, but also a gender confrontation."
"The woman who was voted for the most by the people of Kosovo in the February 9 elections is Albulena Haxhiu. Instead of respecting the people, they attack Albulena ," Kurti said.
On the other hand, the candidate for mayor – who is also the most voted in the election – also called the situation worrying, hoping for a solution from the Constitutional Court.
"This situation is of course worrying. It is extremely important that we are at the service of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. We are also awaiting the decision of the Constitutional Court," she said.
