The Lower House of the British Parliament approved on Thursday a motion for Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina proposed by MP Alicia Kearns, with which Britain supports the territorial integrity of Kosovo and condemns the attack in Banjska against the Kosovo Police.
This motion was proposed by Kearns following a debate that took place on security in the Western Balkans. "I ask that this House moves to recognize the acute security situation in the Western Balkans, to support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, to condemn the attack by Serbian nationalist militants in Banjska in Kosovo on September 24, 2023", it is stated in the motion proposed by MP Kearns, approved in the British Parliament.
Also, in the approved motion, it is requested to support the authority of the Constitutional Court in Bosnia and Herzegovina and to condemn the Russian intervention in the Balkans.
"Parliament notes with concern the irredentist pro-Russian and pro-Serbian political rhetoric in Montenegro and urges the government to increase its engagement with regional partners and international allies to improve the security landscape of the Western Balkans," the approved motion reads. in London.
"Satisfied that the Parliament today unanimously agreed with this motion for the Western Balkans", wrote Kearns on the "X" platform.
Member of Parliament Alicia Kearns, in the speech delivered during the debate on security in the Western Balkans in the British Parliament, spoke about the attack in Banjska, Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, the Association and the threats of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
Kearns announced that the US has completed a report on those responsible for the attack in Banjska, which has not yet been published.
She said that this report should be published in order to know the truth about the attack for which Milan Radojčić, already wanted by INTERPOL and who is free in Serbia, was responsible.
"The US has completed a report on who is responsible and their connections with the Serbian government, our allies must publish it urgently, because the truth matters, because responsibility matters, because without that report, the truth is denied and without that report, no there is no obstacle, because impunity breeds contempt for the rule of law and order. Swift and equal accountability for acts of aggression is essential if we are to discourage future violence and dispel any notion of appeasement."
“So I will ask again; who organized the attack in Banjska? Who has provided the weaponry and what do we appreciate about their purpose? And I would be grateful if the minister could answer that when he does. What we do know without a doubt is that the attack was led by Milan Radoicic, a former vice president of the Serbian party... What we saw then was a violent attack on KFOR by Serbian police, which injured 25 Italian troops, Hungarians, some of whom will never be able to walk again. At that time, Great Britain, USA, EU condemned Kosovo for installing democratically elected mayors, but did not criticize Serbia for its support to the boycott and the Serbian List...", said Kearns.
As reported by KP, the British MP said that Kosovo has fulfilled its democratic obligations and its membership in the Council of Europe would mark a historical moment, while regarding the formation of the Association of Serbian municipalities, she said that there cannot be another republic Serbs in the Balkans.
"Despite the constant obstacles from Russia and Serbia, Kosovo is on the verge of membership in the Council of Europe, with its application that this month went to the Committee of Ministers for approval. Membership would mark a vital milestone in Kosovo's progress from the dark days of the 1990s, and Kosovo's journey is one in which we have played an important role and which we should all be proud of. However, there are those international who have said that Kosovo should be recognized only if it creates an association of Serbian municipalities. The UK must reject this firmly. While I don't want another republic of Serbs from the Western Balkans, the Association of Serb-majority municipalities will be created as part of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, but it cannot be rushed and it cannot be done with external pressure ," said Kearns.
She emphasized that Great Britain should take a more active role in the peace talks and engage in the five EU states that do not recognize Kosovo's sovereignty to help Kosovo towards EU and NATO membership.
"I call on the government now to work with NATO partners to ensure that KFOR is given the support and tasks it needs to make peace, to maintain peace and stability throughout Kosovo. We should consider creating a new security alliance between the US, Great Britain and other NATO member states willing with Kosovo, because that would help address the immediate security concerns that we see. , and let me give you an example of why this is necessary. Last December, President Vučić said that Serbia should simply follow Azerbaijan's example in Nagorno-Karabakh and wait for the special geopolitical circumstances that will allow it to retake Kosovo. This is a statement of intent (that he has) and should not be ignored. Such comments from a state prime minister are unacceptable. "Actually, Vucic threatened me last year for speaking out against arms smuggling in Kosovo ," Kearns concluded.
