The United States and the European Union have come out with a strong message for the Western Balkans. Kosovo and Serbia have increased tensions, while many other countries have political clashes, including Montenegro and Serbia, not leaving out Albania.
Today, a summit between the USA and the EU was held in Washington, where the American president, Joe Biden, was present, together with the American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, while the EU was represented by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
" We reaffirm our common commitment to stability in the Western Balkans and support the European perspective of the region. All partners must continue the required reforms, in order to advance in their European journey ", says the joint statement.
Then, in a special way, the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, through the dialogue facilitated by the European Union, is mentioned.
" We underline the need for Kosovo and Serbia to urgently reduce tensions and quickly and unconditionally implement the Agreement on the path towards normalization of relations between them and return to the dialogue facilitated by the EU", the statement continues .
Both the EU and the US have sent another message that the Balkans is part of their agenda. While the message for Kosovo comes a day before the visit that 5 high officials of the USA and the EU will make to Kosovo and Serbia to end the tensions.
