The Central Election Commission of Kosovo has taken an unprecedented decision today by refusing to certify the candidates of the Serbian List for the early parliamentary elections of December 28. Although all other political entities have been certified without objections, the Serbian List did not receive the green light from the CEC.
Representatives of the Vetevendosje Movement voted against the certification, considering it an extension of Belgrade’s interests in Kosovo. CEC member Sami Kurteshi openly stated that he and his colleague are against the Serbian List candidates participating in these elections. “ I, and I believe my colleague, are also against the certification of the Serbian List along with their candidates ,” Kurteshi said.
After the vote, the result was clear: three votes in favor, two against and six abstentions, which led to the rejection of the list. “ Who is for, three, who is against, two, abstentions, six abstentions. Then the certification of the list of candidates of the Serbian List is rejected ,” confirmed the CEC chairman.
The Serbian List had submitted the names of 33 candidates to run in the elections to be held on December 28. Today's decision is expected to deepen political tensions and open a debate on the representation of the Serbian community in Kosovo's institutions.
