Today, Isni Kilaj was released on bail by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
It is learned that the decision for conditional release was made on December 3, 2025.
The judge assessed that the circumstances have changed significantly since the last detention review in October, finding that Kilaj's continued detention is no longer reasonable or proportionate.
" Although the Judge found that there was some risk that, if released, Kilaj could influence the course of the proceedings or commit other criminal offenses, he concluded that in the current circumstances his fundamental right to liberty outweighs these risks ," the official announcement states.
The Specialist Chambers announced that Kilaj will be under certain restrictive measures, which will remain in force until a new court decision.
Kilaj was arrested in December last year.
Kilaj, along with former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi, former Justice Minister Hajredin Kuçi, former head of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency Bashkim Smakaj and Fadil Fazliu, are accused of obstruction of justice in the war crimes trial against Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selim.
Their trial will begin on February 24th.
This is the second time that Kilaj has been released on bail by the Special Court, after he was released in May 2024 after posting bail of 30,000 euros.
