PDK and LDK accept Kurti's invitation for a meeting, AAK refuses
Albin Kurti

The invitation of the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement for a meeting to discuss the formation of institutions was responded positively by the leader of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, and the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, while the leader of the Alliance, Ardian Gjini, rejected the meeting.

Kurti, the acting Prime Minister, has invited the leaders of the parties that were in opposition in the previous mandate to a meeting to discuss the formation of institutions after the June 7 elections, the day when the constitutional deadline for the constitution of the Assembly came into effect.

Following Kurti's invitation, the PDK held a meeting of its leadership. After the meeting, Hamza said that this party prioritizes addressing Kosovo's challenges over distributing positions.

" I will behave in a responsible and institutional manner. I am not against having meetings, but before we talk about positions, I have said and I repeat that the priorities, the vision for the future, the program, addressing the challenges that Kosovo faces are extremely important. If there is no agreement on these, it is not the goal of the PDK to have a certain number of ministries, to have a speaker of the assembly, the president or whatever," he declared.

Meanwhile, Gjini, the leader of the Alliance, said that he does not see a meeting with the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, to discuss the formation of institutions as necessary. In a public letter, Gjini said that the Alliance is ready to help in the quorum for the election of the president if Kurti accepts the six points offered by the AAK.

"On June 26, 2026, I publicly presented our offer to support the establishment of Kosovo's new institutions. The Alliance is ready, without conditions or personal demands, to help establish a quorum for the election of the president, if the mandate holder for the formation of the Government accepts the six points of our offer. This offer aims to push forward Kosovo's economic development, strengthen the country's international position and, at the same time, not send the country to elections once again. Given our clear and principled position, we do not see the meeting necessary ," Gjin's letter states.

LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku has said that he will respond positively to the invitation of Vetëvendosje leader Albin Kurti for a meeting.

" I will respond positively to the invitation. Let this be a first meeting, I will try to meet with the leaders of other parties to understand their positions. We express our willingness for LDK to be an active part as much as possible, within the principles and values it represents, towards the formation of new institutions", Abdixhiku emphasized after the meeting of the LDK Presidency.
