Visit to Deçan Monastery, Escobar: America wants Serbs to live safely in

The special envoy of the United States of America for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, on the second day of his visit to Kosovo, also visited the Monastery of Deçan, one day after the Government ordered the registration of the land in the Monastery of Deçan.

He also visited the Municipality of Peja where he met the mayor Gazmend Muhaxheri, representatives of civil society and media from Gorazhdec, as well as with the young people from the Albanian, Serbian and Bosnian communities in this municipality.

Escobar said that what he noticed was that people are suffering and have real difficulties in getting pensions as he emphasized that the government will bear responsibility for the living of Serbs in Kosovo.

"I wanted to come to this country to hear the first-hand stories that people have about the impact that the CBK decision is having. It is hard to listen to these stories and not be moved. Here is a community that is really suffering. There are people who are facing real difficulties due to the lack of options for receiving pensions. So, I really want to work with the Government in the hope that we will find an immediate solution" , he said.

In a statement to the local media in the Serbian language "Radio Gorazhdevac", Escobar said that the Serbs in Kosovo and everyone who lives here should feel the support of the USA.

"For the community here, I want them to feel and know that the American government wants Serbs to live in Kosovo in conditions of safety and dignity, and we will continue to work for this. And for the Government of Kosovo, they have the responsibility for this to happen and we will hold them responsible for this ," he added.

Also, Escobar added that the last Kosovo-Serbia agreement should be implemented as he added that work will continue.

"Meanwhile, in the long term, we must work hard to implement the historic agreement on normalization that we reached in March last year. So, we will continue to work, but in the meantime, I think that all the people of Kosovo can count on American support, including Albanians, Serbs, Bosniaks, everyone who lives in this country. I hope they feel American support and American partnership" , he continued.
