The decision of the Government of Kosovo, which asks the Cadastral Agency of Kosovo to implement the decision of the Constitutional Court of 2016, for the land of the Monastery of Deçan, has been welcomed by the United States of America.
Found in Pristina for an official visit, the American special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, reacted after the meeting he held with President Vjosa Osmani.
Escobar also said that the US is very concerned about the attack in Banjska and appealed to Serbia to bring the persons involved to justice.
"I would like to mention how important today's decision is for the monastery, it was a difficult but necessary step and I thank the institutions of Kosovo for this step. We are very concerned about the events of September 24 and we expect Serbia to give a full account of who was responsible," said Escobar.
The DASH envoy for the Balkans called for the parties to implement the agreements reached and dialogue in order to reach the historic agreement.
"Both sides must continue with full implementation to have a historic agreement. Therefore, we also invite Serbia to implement the agreements, as it is not a unilateral effort, where only Kosovo takes those difficult and difficult decisions so that the Ohrid agreement becomes a reality", said Escobar.
Earlier today, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that even though the Government of Kosovo does not like the decision, it has no legal means to annul the decision of the Constitutional Court and must implement it.
The local authorities in Deçan have refused to register 24 hectares of land belonging to the Monastery of Deçan, because they consider that this property belongs to social enterprises "Apiko" and "Iliria" and that it never belonged to the Monastery.
In today's meeting, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the implementation of the decision of the Constitution is crucial for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.
Kurti also announced that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla, has sent a verbal note to the Council of Europe.
"On March 22 there is an extraordinary meeting of the community there, from the middle of April there is the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and at the end of May there is the Council of Ministers, in the Council of Europe, which decides on our membership", he said.
The head of the Kosovar executive has said that the Government's attitude towards this decision will not change, but that on the other hand, there is no doubt that Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe "would be not only a historic victory, but also a giant step for the republic towards the recognition of the European five, which enables membership in NATO and the European Union for independent Kosovo".
