The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has reacted to the crime that shocked the entire public opinion, the murder of 33-year-old Liridona Murseli in Kosovo. She called it a monstrous crime, while emphasizing that she should receive the deserved punishment.
The President stated at the Information Integrity conference that this tragic event should serve as a call for the awakening of the collective conscience and a change in the way society and the justice system deal with violence against women.
"We must persistently fight against the non-normalization of violence. This is the challenge of the whole society. A number of deficiencies have been identified in the way the chain of institutions functions... it is essential that the punishments of our justice institutions are not such as to encourage the perpetrators", emphasized Osmani.
The American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, was also present at the conference, who emphasized the urgency of addressing the phenomenon of femicide, not only in Kosovo but also beyond.
