On Sunday, September 7, 2025, the sky will give us one of the most amazing phenomena of the year: the total lunar eclipse, popularly known as the "Red Moon".
The event will last about 5 and a half hours, from the moment the Moon enters the Earth's shadow until it exits, while the total phase will have an impressive duration of 82 minutes.
According to data from TimeandDate, for Tirana the Moon will rise above the horizon around 7:30 PM, already immersed in the total eclipse phase.
The peak of the spectacle is expected shortly after 8:10 PM, while the lunar disk will remain covered by the Earth's shadow until around 11:00 PM, when it will appear full and bright again.
The reddish color of the Moon during an eclipse is explained by the way the Earth's atmosphere filters the Sun's light: blue rays are scattered, while red and orange ones penetrate, giving the Moon a fiery appearance.
It's the same process that gives the horizon its vibrant colors during sunrise and sunset. What's more, this eclipse also coincides with a supermoon, which will make the disk appear larger and brighter than usual, making the experience even more special.
The phenomenon will be clearly visible from Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, while America will not have the opportunity to observe it this time.
Astronomers remember that eclipses only occur when the Sun, Earth and Moon are placed in a straight line – a rare alignment that occurs a few times a year.
This Sunday, eyes to the sky at 8:10 PM: we will witness one of the most beautiful natural displays the universe has to offer.
