Brad Arnold, the lead singer of the Grammy-nominated American rock band 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 47. The artist passed away a few months after publicly announcing his serious diagnosis of stage four kidney cancer.
The news was confirmed on Saturday by the group itself, which announced in an official statement that Arnold passed away in his sleep, surrounded by his closest people, after a long and difficult battle with the disease.
The band 3 Doors Down was formed in 1995 in Mississippi and achieved great success in 1999 with the song "Kryptonite", which earned them their first Grammy nomination. The song was written by Arnold when he was just 15 years old, during a class at school. The debut album "The Better Life" was a global success, selling over 6 million copies.
In 2003, the band received another Grammy nomination with the song "When I'm Gone" and became one of the most beloved names in alternative rock in the early 2000s. During their career, 3 Doors Down released a total of six albums, with the latest, "Us and the Night", being released in 2016.
