Angelina Jolie is part of the Venice Film Festival this weekend, where she is promoting her newest film, "Maria." Even her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, is present at the event, causing a wave of speculation and media attention on their previous split.
In a speech that caught everyone's attention, Jolie said:
There are many things I will not say in this room that you probably know and assume.
This expression has been interpreted as an allusion to the rumors and suspicions that have circulated around her divorce from Pitt, especially in relation to the allegations of violence against him. She went on to point out that her new character, Maria Callas, has a close connection to the "soft side of her character," noting that she especially appreciates this aspect of Callas' vulnerability.
Pitt and Jolie are attending the 81st Venice International Film Festival this year. Jolie is in town to promote the biopic "Maria," while Pitt is there to promote his new film, "Wolves." The artistic director of the festival, Alberto Barbera, had mentioned earlier that the two actors will try to avoid contact with each other during the events and on the red carpet.
Jolie and Pitt's marriage ended in 2016, and the divorce process has been going on for about 8 years. A major incident during the divorce involved allegations that Pitt had assaulted one of the couple's children and grabbed Jolie by the hair, however no criminal charges have been brought against him. This incident is considered one of the main causes of their separation.
Recently, the couple's daughter, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, turned 18 and decided to change her last name to Shiloh Jolie, dropping her father's last name. This last name change coincides with her efforts to distance herself from past relationships and pursue a more independent identity.
