Bradley Cooper talks about drug addiction: It almost destroyed my career and

Actor Bradley Cooper opened up about his battle with drug addiction in a recent episode of National Geographic's Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge.

Cooper said he feels "very lucky" to have overcome the addictions that nearly took his life decades ago.

"In terms of alcohol and drugs, yes, but it's not about the fame," said Cooper, who is father to a daughter with ex-partner Irina Shayk.

"But I was lucky. I am 29 years sober and have been sober for 19 years. I am very lucky", he added afterwards.

The "Hangover" star, who recently sparked backlash for his prosthetic nose in the upcoming Netflix film "Maestro," struggled with a severe drug and alcohol addiction in the early 2000s, which he openly admits that they hindered his work.

Cooper previously revealed how his addiction took a turn for the worse after he was fired from action-thriller series Alias with Jennifer Garner. He also revealed that he almost made a comeback in 2011 after his father died after a battle with cancer.

"I definitely had a nihilistic attitude towards the afterlife, as I thought, 'I'm going to die,'" he told her.

"I don't know, it wasn't good for a while, until I thought I should accept who I really am and try to find peace with it, and then it kind of calmed down," the actor said afterwards.
