Moments of panic have been experienced by passengers on a Ryanair flight that departed this morning from Macedonia Airport in Thessaloniki, bound for Munich.
According to preliminary information, just a few minutes after takeoff, at an altitude of about 6,000 to 6,500 feet, a technical problem was detected in one of the plane's two engines.
Immediately after reporting the defect, the crew implemented emergency procedures, while the pilot decided to return the aircraft to Thessaloniki airport, where the landing was carried out safely.
Meanwhile, passengers have reported that during the flight, a loud noise was heard and one of the plane's windows was damaged, causing decompression in the cabin. As a result, oxygen masks were automatically activated, while passengers helped a passenger who was sitting next to the damaged window.
After landing, an EKAB emergency service ambulance arrived on the runway, which transported a 61-year-old Serbian citizen, who had suffered neck injuries, to the AXEPA hospital in Thessaloniki.
The passengers then continued their journey to Munich on another plane, while authorities and the airline have launched investigations to determine the causes of the incident.
