Two-year-old boy bites cobra on the head and leaves it for dead

A 2-year-old boy managed to kill a venomous cobra by biting it on the head.

Govinda Kumar reacted after the snake wrapped itself around his arm while he was playing outside his home, in the village of Bankatwa in India.

Relatives said the boy saw the snake and threw a piece of brick at it, causing the snake to react and attack.

But he reacted quickly, biting the snake on the head and killing it almost instantly. Although he killed the snake, Govinda lost consciousness a short time later, having swallowed part of the cobra.

He was rushed to a local health centre before being shifted to a hospital in Bettiah for treatment. Dr Surab Kumar, told The Telegraph: "Timely treatment saved Govinda's life. The venom affected him but not fatally. The child had eaten a part of the cobra and the venom had passed through his digestive tract, unlike in cases where cobras bite and the venom enters the bloodstream causing neurotoxicity. The child's condition is currently stable and treatment is being given under the supervision of doctors.

Cobras are extremely poisonous and their venom can kill a human within a few hours by paralyzing the respiratory system.

They are one of the four most venomous snake species in India.
