The Italian antimonopoly authority announced this Wednesday that it has opened an investigation against the Armani group and the Dior group due to the exploitation of workers by the suppliers of the aforementioned fashion brands.
The competition supervisory authority announced that it suspects the above-mentioned fashion companies of "possible illegal conduct" in the promotion and sale of clothing and accessories, which contradicts the provisions of the Consumer Code, reports ANSA.
"In both cases, the companies may have made false statements about their ethics and social responsibility, especially about working conditions and compliance with the law by their suppliers," the Italian regulator added.
Some Armani and Dior suppliers are alleged to have employed workers who worked longer shifts than required by law, in inadequate health and safety conditions, while their wages were extremely low.
Armani Group issued a statement in which it rejected the allegations and stated that it will cooperate fully with the Italian authorities in the investigation.
