In a small corner of the South Pacific, lies one of the world's most unusual attractions: the only underwater post office, on Hideaway Island in the Republic of Vanuatu.
Located about three meters below the water's surface, within the Hideaway Island Marine Reserve, this unique post office opened in May 2003, after approval from the local Ni-Vanuatu community, and has since become a symbol of eco-tourism and the country's innovative spirit.
Although it looks like a tourist attraction, the underwater post office operates just like any other post office, except here, sending postcards requires a mask, snorkel, and a bit of courage to dive in. Visitors can purchase special waterproof postcards, which are sent with a specially embossed stamp, instead of traditional postal ink.
