The best tiramisu in the world is made in Japan and has cherries

The famous Italian dessert 'Tiramisu' seems to be no longer the best in the 'country of creation'. Japan wins the World Professional Tiramisu Trophy, a world championship dedicated to this Italian dessert conceived and organized this year in Rome by the International Federation of Pastry, Ice Cream and Chocolate (FIPGC).

Italy took second place, while Morocco took third.

Japanese Aya Okada, originally from Ishikawa, born in 1996, took first place with a tiramisu in the shape of a grand piano, decorated with maraschino cherries and black cherries.

The second place winner, Milena Russo, originally from Capo d'Orlando (Messina), created "Amor Misù", a creation that combines Bulgarian rose, coffee, raspberry and pink pepper, accompanied by a cup of rosemary and lemon.

The bronze medal went to Simon Loutid from Morocco with "Nostalgia for a Child," an ode to Africa presented as a hyssop flower, evoking the intense scents of vanilla and hibiscus.

Pastry chefs from 10 countries, Italy, France, Australia, Japan, Morocco, Mexico, China, Peru, Senegal and Colombia, participated in this event.

Each competitor had two hours to create two versions: a classic tiramisu made exclusively with traditional ingredients and an innovative one, in which the pastry chefs' imagination was free to express itself, provided that a cooked portion, a fresh, crumbly cheese, and coffee were present.

The winners were determined based on the final scores for both desserts.

"This competition represents the essence of contemporary pastry production: respect for tradition, openness to the world and the desire to renew, but without losing our identity. Tiramisu, a symbol of Italy, today confirms its universal language, capable of uniting cultures and professionals from every corner of the globe," said FIPGC president Matteo Cutolo.
