A 48-year-old man has been arrested by Tirana police after being wanted by Italian authorities for exploitation of prostitution.
A 48-year-old man declared internationally wanted by Italian authorities has been arrested in Tirana with the aim of extradition to Italy, where he has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for exploitation of prostitution and slavery/subjugation.
The arrested person is Bekim Nikolli, a resident of Tirana, who was located by FAST Albania services, as part of the police operation codenamed "FAST", after exchanging information with Italian counterparts.
According to the police, Nikolli was declared internationally wanted after the Naples Court of Appeal sentenced him in 2021 to 13 years in prison for the criminal offenses of "Exploitation of prostitution" and "Enslavement/Submission".
Italian authorities suspect that the 48-year-old, in collaboration with other individuals, exploited women illegally brought into Italy for prostitution. He is also suspected of using violence against them to keep them under control and increase the profits from the criminal activity.
The police report that Nikolli was located and arrested in the area of the Agricultural Institute in Tirana, following operational actions carried out by the Investigation Sector at the Directorate of the Special Operational Force.
The decision against him was issued in November 2021 by the Court of Appeal of Naples, Italy. Following the provisional arrest, Interpol Tirana continues the procedures for the extradition of Bekim Nikolli to Italy, where he must serve the sentence imposed by the Italian judicial authorities.
Interpol Tirana has initiated procedures for his extradition to Italy.

As a result of the exchange of information between FAST Albania and FAST Italy, the operational services of the Investigation Sector, "FAST Albania", at the Directorate of the Special Operational Force, at the Criminal Police Department, based also on the information obtained operationally, made it possible to locate, in the area of the Agricultural Institute, in Tirana, and provisionally arrest, with the aim of extradition to Italy, the citizen Bekim Nikolli, 48 years old, resident of Tirana.
This citizen was declared internationally wanted after the Court of Appeal of Naples, Italy, in November 2021, sentenced him to 13 years in prison for the criminal offenses of "Exploitation of prostitution" and "Slavery/Submission", as provided for by Italian criminal legislation.
From the information of the Italian authorities it results that this citizen, in collaboration with other citizens, used female citizens illegally brought into Italy for prostitution.
He is also suspected of using violence against them, with the aim of maximizing profits from exploitation for prostitution and keeping them under control.
"Interpol Tirana is continuing the procedures for the extradition of this citizen to Italy," the police announced.
