After days of controversy, the face of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni appearing on an angel has been deleted.
"I covered it because the Vatican asked me to. Last night I deleted it. I still say she was not the prime minister," restoration artist Bruno Valentinetti told "Repubblica."
An architect posted a photo on social media of the fresco in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina before its controversial restoration.
The image of Meloni in an "angel face" appeared during the restoration of a fresco in Rome.
Valentinetti has claimed that he simply restored a fresco that he originally painted in 2000.
Architect Cino Zucchi reposted the image on his social media profiles. Reached by phone, he explained that he got the image from Roma Aeterna's Instagram account. He added that he likes to make ironic posts.
