The planned concerts of the Serbian singer Ceca in Montenegro have sparked controversy.
Her presence has brought strong opposition from the Albanian community in the neighboring country and beyond, who are calling for a boycott of the concert.
Svetlana Raznatović (Ceca), known as a pop-folk music icon in Serbia, is a controversial figure, as her husband, Zeljko Raznatović (Arkani), is accused of war crimes during the conflict in the former Yugoslavia, including in Kosovo.
Civil society organizations and Albanian activists accuse the singer of having supported war crimes and of being part of a regime that has caused a lot of suffering and damage to the Albanian people. Critics argue that Ceca's presence is a provocation.
"I'm not against art, I'm not against music, because I grew up with that music in Montenegro and I listen to it. But yes, I am against it if someone comes to my house to sing to me here that her husband has killed thousands of innocent people. But everyone has the right to their own choices. That's all from me", said the Albanian model, Emina Cunmulaj in a post on Instagram Story a few days ago.
The former Albanian colonel, Dritan Demiraj, also reacted harshly. "All our compatriots in Montenegro should join the call of Albanian-American organizations from the diaspora in Montenegro to boycott the concert of the Serbian singer Svetlana Raznatovic, the ex-wife of the notorious criminal Zlejko Raznatovic (Arkani). He was the commander of the Serbian paramilitary forces "Tigers" responsible for murder and genocide against children, unarmed men and women in Bosnia and in Dardani, in Recak.
But the organizers of the concert argue that this is an artistic performance and that boycotting it will bring nothing but tension and division between different ethnic communities in Montenegro.
Strict security measures before the concert in Ulcinj
Serbian media reported that Ceca arrived in Montenegro on Sunday, where she will first perform in Ulcinj, but also in other cities throughout the month of August.
Its presence is accompanied by strict security measures. During Sunday, the large square where the concert was to be held was strictly controlled by 50 members of the anti-terrorist unit, who also used dogs. For a while, the restaurant itself, which is located on the beach where she performs, was closed.
