In a groundbreaking move, the Miss Universe pageant has broken its age restrictions and focus on superficial beauty, opening the door for the 80-year-old contestant from Korea. "Beauty knows no age". This is the message of this year's Miss Universe pageant, which features the event's oldest contestant.
"After seeing that the Miss Universe pageant has no age limit, I said I'm taking part in it. So, I sent them photos. So, I feel very happy," said Choi Soon-hwa. As a mother and grandmother who is now pursuing her career as a model and who recently ran as a candidate for the National Assembly, Choi, through her action, has given a message to other seniors to follow their dreams.
"With your talent, go to the place where you can find confidence, go out of the house wherever you want to participate in social activities, so that the elderly society can be more active," said Choi. Long criticized for being out of step with the times, Miss Universe organizers lifted many restrictions on age, marriage and motherhood starting this year.
"Since many restrictions such as the age limit have been removed, starting this year, more participants can participate in the pageant and now more standards for women's beauty are applied," said Kim Sung-shin, a Miss Universe contestant.
