After saving for 10 years to buy his dream car, a brand new Ferrari 458 Spider, a Japanese man saw it burn out within an hour of his first lap.
Japanese social media was abuzz with the sad story of Honkon, a young music producer who spent a fortune on his dream sports car, a Ferrari, only to see it burst into flames the day he drove it for the first time.
The 33-year-old took to X (Twitter) to tell the story of how he was only able to enjoy his dream Ferrari for a few minutes because the car caught fire while he was driving it on the Shuto Expressway in Tokyo on Wednesday, April 16.
So Honkon stopped, got out of his car and called the fire department when he saw smoke. He spent the next 20 minutes watching his dream almost completely burn. “I think I’m the only person in Japan who has experienced such problems,” Honkon wrote on X, accompanying a photo of the burning car. “I spent $306,000 and all I got was this photo.”
Tokyo Metropolitan Police said there were no signs of a crash on Honkon's Ferrari, but the investigation is still ongoing. The car's engine is suspected to have caught fire, but the cause remains unknown. Although visibly distressed by his misfortune, Honkon, the producer of Japanese band Chocorabi, told his fans that he was glad to be alive, as he had feared the car would explode.
