Prince Harry and Meghan Markle don't have many fans in the UK at the moment. Their decision to step down from royal duties was met with much criticism and this sentiment remains to this day among many. Now living in the United States, they are not particularly well-liked in their new country either.
Eric Trump, the son of former US President Donald Trump, recently gave an interview to the Daily Mail and basically said that nobody in the country cares about them. Despite all this, they have bought a house in Montecito, California, where they have started a new life for themselves and their children, Archie and Lilibet. Although Harry has not traveled to the UK much, he has done so on several occasions.. But with the new developments, it could cost him and the royal family a change.
Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced on Wednesday a new charge for the "air passenger levy", which is a tax on flights. Private flights will now be taxed at an additional 50 percent, which would be the equivalent of about $585 per passenger.
This will make private flight very expensive. It probably won't stop Harry and Meghan flying from California to the UK, but they might think twice before making plans.
Commercial air travel will not be affected, so this is simply a move to limit private flights. Private jets are said to pollute up to 14 times more than commercial jets.
