Shakira, who recently moved to the US after splitting from her partner and father of two children, Gerard Pique, is facing a new investigation related to the tax year 2018. The process will be conducted by a judge in a court in Esplugues de Llobregat, the same one that started the previous investigations.
A spokesman for the High Court of Catalonia said: "Court no. 2 in Esplugues de Llobregat opened proceedings following a complaint filed by prosecutors against the singer Shakira for two alleged tax crimes related to income tax and property tax for the Spanish tax year 2018".
There has been no official comment yet from the mother-of-two, who was recently pictured watching Carlos Alcarath play in the Wimbledon semi-finals.
The 46-year-old singer will go on trial later this year in another case involving more than €14.5 million in back taxes owed to her between 2012 and 2014. In that case, prosecutors are seeking up to eight years in prison for the Colombian star.
Shakira, amid intense rumors of an affair with F1 driver Lewis Hamilton in recent weeks, has denied any wrongdoing and insists she will fight the charges in court rather than pursue a deal with Spanish prosecutors.
Before leaving Barcelona for Miami, Shakira launched a scathing attack on Spanish tax authorities after it was revealed she will stand trial for alleged financial wrongdoing between 2012 and 2014. She claimed she was being "persecuted" and accused the Spanish Ministry of Finance of using "unacceptable methods to damage her reputation and force her to complete the deal".
