Britney Spears has regained media attention after the release of details from her March arrest for drunk driving in California.
According to reports from American media, during communication with police officers, the artist made strong and unexpected statements about her mother, Lynne Spears, bringing to mind a serious accident that occurred decades ago.
After being warned by officers about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, Britney reportedly stated:
“Yes, sir, I know. Actually, my mother killed a boy on a bicycle, but I never did that.”
Further, the singer added in revolted tones:
"And nothing happened to her! Why didn't they arrest her? How did my mother get away with all this?"
The statements are related to Lynne Spears' autobiographical book, "Through the Storm," in which she recounted an accident that occurred in 1975 in Louisiana.
According to the book, her vehicle struck 12-year-old Anthony Winters during bad weather and difficult atmospheric conditions. She reportedly did not face criminal charges for the incident at the time.
Footage released from Britney Spears ' arrest also shows the singer failing a field sobriety test, while she admitted to police that she had consumed alcohol and several prescription medications, including Prozac, Adderall and Lamictal.
After her arrest, Britney spent a short time in rehab and later reached a plea deal for a lesser charge. The court sentenced her to one year of probation and mandatory alcohol education.
The event has reignited debates over the singer's emotional state and tense relationship with her family, relationships that have been at the center of public and media attention for years.
