Deaths that shocked Hollywood in 2025

During the year 2025, world-famous actors and singers passed away.

Hollywood, the international film scene and the music industry, said goodbye to artists and creators who shaped modern entertainment, through roles, films and songs that gained worldwide recognition.

Here are some of the losses that marked the year that is ending:

French actress and singer Brigitte Bardot, who became an international sex symbol before turning her back on cinema to dedicate herself to animal rights, died at the age of 91 on Sunday, December 28. The news of her death was announced by the foundation that bears her name, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation.

American actor James Ranson committed suicide on December 19 at the age of 46. Ranson was best known for his role as Ziggy Sobotka in the popular television series The Wire, while in cinema he stood out as Eddie Kaspbrak in the horror film It: Chapter Two. On television, he also participated in the series Generation Kill and Bosch, while his last television appearance was in an episode of the second season of the series Poker Face, which aired in June.

Actor, director and founder of the Sundance Film Festival, Robert Redford, died in his sleep on September 16 at the age of 89. He starred in more than two dozen films, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All the President's Men and Three Days of the Condor, and was awarded an Oscar for directing for Ordinary People.

Academy Award winner Diane Keaton died on October 11, at the age of 79. She became world famous for her collaborations with Woody Allen, particularly Annie Hall, and also starred in films such as The Godfather, The First Wives Club and Father of the Bride.

Two-time Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, 95, was found dead in his Santa Fe home, along with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog on February 26. His career included iconic roles in films such as The French Connection, Unforgiven, The Conversation and The Royal Tenenbaums.

Actor Val Kilmer died on April 1, at the age of 65, from pneumonia. He starred in films such as Top Gun, Batman Forever, The Doors, Heat and Tombstone, while his last appearance was in Top Gun: Maverick.

Diane Lund, the three-time Oscar-nominated actress and mother of Laura Dern, died on November 3 at the age of 89. She had a long career in films such as Chinatown, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and Wild at Heart, as well as major television productions.

Udo Kier, the German actor of European and independent cinema, died on November 23, at the age of 81. He worked with directors such as Lars von Trier, Gus Van Sant and Wim Wenders, with roles in films such as My Own Private Idaho and Melancholia.

British actress Prunella Scales, who became known as Cybill Fawlty in the TV series Fawlty Towers, died on October 27, aged 93. In 1992 she was awarded the CBE title for her contribution to drama.

Michelle Trachtenberg, who was best known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, died on February 26 at the age of 39 from complications of diabetes, according to the New York City medical examiner's office.

Pamela Bach, the actress and ex-wife of David Hasselhoff, died on March 5 at the age of 62. Pamela Bach was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. No suicide note was found at the scene, authorities said. The late actress had starred in series such as Knight Rider, Baywatch and Cheers.

The director and creator of the Twin Peaks series died on January 15, at the age of 78. He was one of the most influential figures in modern cinema, with works such as Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, The Elephant Man and Wild at Heart.

Rob Reiner, the director, was found dead with his wife, Michelle, on December 14 in their Brentwood home. Their son, Nick, was arrested as the prime suspect in the double murder. His career included directing classics such as “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Stand by Me,” “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “A Few Good Men.”

Ozzy Osbourne, the lead singer of Black Sabbath, died on July 22 at the age of 76. Just weeks before his death, he had taken the stage for the last time in Birmingham, in front of 40,000 fans, at his farewell concert with Black Sabbath. According to the death certificate, the musician died of cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and complications from Parkinson's disease. Osbourne was one of the pioneers of the heavy metal scene and was twice honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Singer D'Angelo, an iconic R&B artist and pioneer of the neo-soul movement, died on October 14 at the age of 51 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He had released hit albums such as Brown Sugar, Voodoo and Black Messiah and won four Grammy Awards.

British singer-songwriter Chris Rea died on December 22, at the age of 74. He had numerous hits such as "Road to Hell," "On the Beach" and "Driving Home for Christmas."
