The singer Rita Ndoci, who has also been away from the scene for years, has spoken about meeting the singer Parashqevi Simaku, their walks and festivals.
She showed how the regime behaved with artists before the 1990s, where according to her, without strong support at that time, from officials of the Political Bureau, the artists had no support to move forward.
I think that without the strong support of even the most functionaries, we would not have so much support. A member of the Political Bureau adored Paraskevi and she had support. I had a girlfriend, the daughter of a member of the Bureau. We had our arms covered. I have survived and adapted in the most horrible way to that system. I am the first who imitated Nexhmije Hoxha in 1988, when I was in the dormitory. That those who listened to it could do 8 years in prison and I could end up being shot.
It takes courage to do this. When Paraskhevia came, then I didn't imitate him anymore, because I was afraid of the people who surrounded him. I have also been saved in some things".
According to Rita Ndoci, the release of Parashqevi's videos from the US is an invasion of privacy.
"Parashqevia has decided to wait for her son at that train station, maybe until his soul comes out." But what is happening, I suffer with him. Her privacy was completely violated. Why did she sing there secretly? There may have been people who noticed it and passed by. That way of doing honor is more humiliating for me. For me, Parashkevia is killed twice. Albanian society seemed to me like the 1974 pamphlet that we read against artists and educated figures.
If I have the opportunity now, I would make a phone call between colleagues with Parashqevi. I would say to him: "Parashqevi, you have achieved all your goals! But maybe it has come that for the things you don't achieve, you have to overcome the situation, strengthen yourself, spiritually, psychologically to cope with that failure as well. This is human strength. It doesn't matter how we fall, it matters how we get up. You have to get up and make it for yourself, but also for the boy", she said.
