American actress Imani Smith, known for her role as young Nala in the famous Broadway musical “The Lion King,” has tragically lost her life at the age of just 25. She was found dead in an apartment in Edison, New Jersey, after an urgent call to emergency services.
According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, Smith had multiple stab wounds and was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where she was officially pronounced dead. Authorities have launched a full investigation to uncover the circumstances of the crime, which has shocked the American art world.
Her partner, Jordan D. Jackson-Small, 35, has been arrested in connection with the incident and is now facing charges of first-degree murder, endangering the life of a minor and unlawful possession of a weapon. The arrest was announced by District Attorney Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan.
Imani Smith began her artistic career as a child. During 2011–2012, she played the role of Nala in the Broadway production of “The Lion King,” an experience that, according to her family, shaped her life and passion for art. Her death has left a huge void in the artistic community, but above all in her family circle.
Imani leaves behind a 3-year-old son, her parents, two younger brothers and an entire community that adored her. Kira Helper, her aunt, has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to help with funeral expenses, housing, therapy for family members, legal costs of the criminal process, and care for her child and dog.
