Murder of Ilir Gjini in Laç, police find another weapon at the scene
Emilian Suti

A second firearm was found by police near the place where Ilir Gjini was killed on the evening of July 9, in the "Erdogan" neighborhood of Laç.

The weapon was discovered during detailed checks carried out by the investigation team, which was also guided by the statements of the people escorted to the police after the incident. It is a revolver, which has been seized and sent for ballistics expertise.

Experts will determine whether this weapon was used during the gunfight, who it belongs to, and whether there was an exchange of gunfire between the people involved in the incident.

Investigators suspect that other people, besides the suspected perpetrator and the victim, may have been present at the crime scene, who may have played a role in the conflict or had knowledge of the dynamics of the event.

Emiljan Suti has been declared wanted for the murder, while investigations continue to fully clarify the circumstances, as well as to identify other persons who may be involved.

Ilir Gjini and Artur Suti lived in the same neighborhood in Laç. The cause of the murder is suspected to be a possible conflict between them abroad, where the possibility of criminal activity cannot be ruled out.

Investigators suspect that the perpetrator was helped by other people to leave the area, but so far, potential accomplices have not been identified.

A pistol was also found at the scene, which has been sent for examination, and there are suspicions that it may have belonged to the victim. The parties had also had a verbal conflict moments before the murder, as they were spotted in the center of Laç.

The suspect, Emiljan Suti, has a significant criminal record, sentenced to 5 years in prison for intimidation in connection with duty, illegal possession of weapons, and was also arrested in Belgium for theft.

15 years ago, Emiljan Suti managed to escape another assassination attempt in front of the Kurbin police station. He had received permission to leave prison when he was shot with a hail of bullets from a car, but fortunately he was not caught.

He is the brother of Gentian Suti, considered the "strong man" of Laç.

Over 15 years ago, the two brothers were sentenced to 5 and 4 years in prison, respectively, after opening fire following a confrontation after the police had stopped them for a check.

Ilir Gjini, originally from Milot, but living in Laç, had 3 other surnames, Kokaj, Lika and Nure. The reason for changing the surnames is suspected to be his problematic past, including burglaries in Italy, for which he was arrested together with his brother in 2013.
