One of the Spanish clubs that secured the right to play in Europe next season, Osasuna, may lose their place in the Conference League. The reason is a sentence that he received a few months ago from the justice system in Spain, for fixing matches, even though it belongs to a period of a decade ago.
UEFA has opened an investigation into the Osasuna club, which has been punished for manipulating the results of matches in the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons. UEFA may decide to exclude this team from the activity of the next edition, making way for Athletic Bilbao.
The leaders of Osasuna were found guilty of rigging, having paid Betis 400,000 euros to beat Valladolid and another 200,000 euros to beat Osasuna. These were not the only payments, as it has been revealed that payments of 150,000 euros were made to Deportivo La Coruña and 400,000 euros to Getafe.
This is enough for UEFA to have legal space to decide on the exclusion of the club in question for match fixing, since the penalty was given in January of this year.
