New troubles for Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation, who after the "Hermoso" case must be protected from serious charges. Investigated for corruption, mismanagement and money laundering, the 46-year-old is accused of organizing the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia in exchange for a bribe in the form of land for the construction of hotels in the country.
Accusations arising from the investigation, in which Rubiales is involved, but above all from his uncle and former chief of staff of the president of the Football Federation, Juan Rubiales. According to what is reported from Spain, in fact, in the investigation involving the former president, "extra-contractual commissions" emerged, which, we read in the order, "mean the acquisition of land in the Arab country, the management of which is understood to be related to the management of the hotel".
At the center of the investigation, as mentioned, is the testimony given on November 15, 2022 by the uncle and former chief of staff of the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation, Juan Rubiales, who resigned from the post because he did not agree with the direction of the grandson. The investigations started after the complaint presented to the judicial bodies for the contracts signed by Luis Rubiales, with the mediation of the "Kosmos" company of the former Barcelona footballer, Gerard Pique, for the transfer of the Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.
So far, 7 arrests have been made and 5 other people are under investigation. The Civil Guard said that Rubiales is not among those arrested because, according to "Associated Press" sources, the former president is currently abroad in the Dominican Republic. Agents searched his house in Granada, looking for contracts and documents.
