Gareth Southgate is targeting his second consecutive European Championship final as England prepare to face the Netherlands on Wednesday. The "Three Lions" will be looking to reach the second consecutive final of the tournament, after going there three years ago.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands has already overcome the result of the previous tournament, when it was eliminated in the 1/8 by the Czech Republic. If England beat Ronald Koeman's side on Wednesday, they will face either France or Spain in the final in Berlin on July 14. France has also enjoyed a fantastic run of results in major tournaments in recent years. The Blues narrowly missed out on the World Cup title in 2022, after being beaten on penalties by Argentina in the final. But they were declared world champions four years ago in Russia. This was followed by a shock defeat at EURO 2020 in the round of 16 against Switzerland on penalties. Meanwhile, Spain last reached a major tournament final in 2012 when they beat Italy 4-0 at the European Championship in Ukraine.
Over the last six years they have gone to the round of 16 in two World Cups. La Roja also reached the semi-finals of EURO 2020, but lost to eventual champions Italy. However, this time they were definitely the strongest team in the tournament. Spain is the only remaining team to have won every match so far. They have also beaten some of the heavyweights along the way, including Croatia, Italy and Germany.
