The Albanian Football Federation came out a few days ago with an announcement closing the contract with "Over Sport" for the broadcast of "Abissnet Superiores", First Category and Cup of Albania matches.
"Over Sport" issued a public statement stating that everything happened due to the lack of transparency on the part of the Albanian Football Federation.
Recently, the AFL has made a public clarification about this, saying that "Over Sport" had not made any payment since January.
AFF post:
After the announcement of the Albanian Football Federation for the termination of the contract for the television broadcasting rights of the "Abissnet Superiore" and First Category championships, as well as the Albanian Cup and the Albanian Supercup with the company "Over Sport", on 27.06.2023 , from this company there was a public reaction, which stated that this was an unexpected development and that the actions of the AFL were the result of a lack of transparency and in contrast to the ethical principles that "Over Sport" should follow.
The AFL waited in case "Over Sport" would have a clearer public stance, but in its absence, it finds it appropriate to clarify the public opinion regarding the way in which the termination of this contract was reached.
From January 2023, the company "Over Sport" has not paid the amounts provided for in the contract according to the relevant deadlines. This company has never given all the guarantees it was committed to in the contract. The production and telecast of national competitions has been beyond any technical standard and has especially directly affected the operation of the VAR system.
Likewise, the editorial stance and journalistic contributions have been outside the requirements of the contract and in many cases even in violation of public morals or the sensibilities of different social groups.
For all these cases, "Over Sport" has been notified and warned many times, most recently in May 2023, when it was given a deadline to fulfill its obligations until 31.05.2023, resulting in the termination of the contract.
And even on 02.06.2023, a meeting was held where the company was warned about the termination of the contract and where it again undertook to settle the obligations, this time within 21.06.2023. Beyond this date, the AFL could not jeopardize the telecast of the matches for the 2023-2024 season, and for this reason, the termination of the contract was decided.
In these conditions, what in fact "Over Sport" qualifies as "unexpected", we think that it is only an excuse towards the consumers to whom this company has taken on commitments that it cannot keep, as it has done with the FFL -in.
