Atletico Madrid have decided to publicly respond to ongoing reports of a possible transfer of Julian Alvarez to Barcelona.
Through a series of posts on social media, the Madrid club used irony to dismiss the speculation, hinting that it has no intention of giving up one of the team's most important players.
In a publication accompanied by a photo of Lamin Jamal, Pedri and Rafinha wearing the Atletico Madrid jersey, the club humorously wrote:
“ Here we go! We have sent a fax to Barcelona with our transfer offer: four tickets to tomorrow's Bad Bunny concert, an annual subscription to ABC and a bag of sunflower seeds. We are eagerly awaiting their response to prepare the announcement .”
Atletico then followed up with another ironic message on Instagram, emphasizing that the published images were created in a matter of minutes to demonstrate how easily information can be manipulated in the digital age.
" Remember, it only took us five minutes to create this hoax. We live in a time where reality can be distorted. Don't believe everything you see, especially if it's related to Barça ," the club wrote.
At the end of the reaction, Atletico Madrid left aside the irony and moved on to direct accusations, claiming that it has been facing a campaign against one of its players for months.
" No, Atletico Madrid would never do something like that. However, in recent months we have suffered from a smear campaign against one of our players. Self-serving leaks, fake news, constant disrespect, Barcelona's version of the story-making machine, phone calls before direct matches ..."
The Madrid club didn't stop there, adding a strong sting to their Catalan rivals:
" But of course, it would not occur to us to have the vice president of referees on our payroll or to use political favors to sign players. Respect and Value ."
Atletico Madrid's reaction comes at a time when Spanish media have repeatedly reported Barcelona's interest in Julian Alvarez, although so far there has been no official confirmation of negotiations between the clubs.
