Albanian national team defender Mario Mitaj could return to European football during this summer's transfer window, after a spell in the Saudi Arabian Championship with Al Ittihad. The news is reported by Saudi media, which say that the club and the player have attracted the interest of a team from the Italian Serie A.
According to sources close to the club, Al Ittihad has received a concrete offer from Italy, the value of which is said to be twice as high as the player's current contract. With the Saudi club undergoing a restructuring process, reports suggest that the parties could reach an agreement and Mitaj's transfer to Serie A could take place this summer.
The name of the Italian club that has shown interest in the 22-year-old Albanian has not been made public at this time. However, Mitaj is considered one of the most important players in the national team, where he has been active as a starter on the left wing of defense for years.
Before transferring to Al Ittihad, Mitaj was part of AEK Athens and Lokomotiv Moscow, building considerable experience in European football despite his young age.
