An unusual situation has accompanied the Tunisia national team's preparations for the 2026 World Cup, as one of the team's most promising talents has been left out of the final list following the intervention of his family.
Coach Sabri Lamushi has decided not to include 19-year-old striker Luej Ben Farhat, after a phone call he said came from the player's father. The latter had told the coach that his son was not yet ready for a World Cup-level competition, considering his participation premature.
The family's statement seems to have surprised Tunisia's technical staff. Lamushi said he had tried to contact the player himself to clarify the situation, but had not received a response.
" I received a call from Louay Ben Farhat's father. He told me it was too early to choose him and refused. I was shocked. I called Louay, he didn't answer. I called his father again, he didn't answer either. It's disrespectful. This case is closed. If we don't have respect for this shirt, for this flag, we don't deserve to play for Tunisia ," Lamushi declared.
After this situation, the coach decided to close any discussion about the striker's inclusion in the world tour, leaving him off the team's roster.
German-born Luej Ben Farhat is considered one of Tunisian football's rising talents. He plays for Karlsruher in the Bundesliga 2 in Germany and, despite an injury that kept him out of action for the first half of the season, returned to form in the second half of the season.
The 19-year-old made his debut with the Tunisia national team last month in friendlies against Haiti and Canada, where he left a positive impression with his performances.
