US President Donald Trump said on Monday he is prepared to move some matches of the 2026 World Cup if the cities scheduled to host the tournament do not provide sufficient security. The 2026 World Cup will be held in the US, Canada and Mexico, with matches in 11 American cities.
Trump said from the White House: " It's an interesting competition, we're going to make sure everything is safe. Some cities are run by left-wing lunatics who don't know what they're doing. Security will be guaranteed. If not, we'll move the games to other cities ." He cited Chicago as a negative example because of crime, even though the city will not host World Cup matches.
Among the host cities are important Democratic strongholds: Los Angeles (8 games), Seattle and San Francisco (6 games each). Trump recalled that his administration has deployed the National Guard to some of these cities, such as Los Angeles, despite protests from local authorities.
