"I will play for another year or two", Cristiano Ronaldo confirms: The

Cristiano Ronaldo has finally revealed his plan to retire from football, confirming that the 2026 World Cup will be the last major tournament of his career.

The Portugal striker, who has scored over 950 goals for club and country since making his debut as a teenager with Sporting in 2002, said in an interview on Tuesday that he "will retire from football in a year or two" to devote more time to his family.

" I'm really enjoying this moment. I feel good, I'm scoring goals and I'm still quick and sharp.  But let's be realistic, I'll probably play for another year or two ," the 40-year-old said during an international summit in Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo, who in June extended his contract with Al-Nassr until 2027, still has the only title he is missing, the World Cup, in his sights.

He confirmed that the 2026 tournament in the US, Canada and Mexico will be the last on football's biggest stage.

" Yes, definitely yes. I will be 41 years old and I think it's the right time.  I have given everything to football for 25 years.  I have broken many records, both with clubs and with the national team. I am very proud, now I want to enjoy every moment ," he declared.

With 143 international goals, Ronaldo remains the all-time leading scorer in national team history.

Portugal is only two points away from qualifying for the next World Cup and the Lusitanian 'star' aims to end his career in style.

Meanwhile, his son Cristiano Jr., who plays for Portugal U-16, is following in his father's footsteps.

" As a parent, I want him to be happy. It doesn't matter if he plays football or does something else. I will always be there to support him ," Ronaldo concluded.
