George Koh, the former goalkeeper of the Bundesliga, gave his last interview, while he has been fighting pancreatic cancer for 18 months.
" It is incurable, I will die. But he has not decided when he will take me ," said Koh.
Confessing about the disease, Koh said:
" There are days when I am depressed and my head is empty. But there are days when I could be calm. You can't explain this.
I can never tell what tomorrow will bring. Sometimes I'm in a good mood in the evening, I go to bed and the next morning I can't get up ," he said.
Koh was diagnosed in April 2023. At the time, doctors said he might have six months left to live, but nearly 1.5 years passed.
" There are so many people who have to live with cancer and other diseases. I don't even want to put myself in the foreground. Here I am giving my last interview and the reason I am talking about this is because I used to be in the foreground as a goalkeeper.
I also think about the children in the hospital wards. I have experienced everything. Sick children haven't seen anything yet. They probably haven't even been on vacation with their parents because they just have to lie down in the wards. This really excited me ", says the former goalkeeper.
During his career, Koh has played for Fortuna Düsseldorf, Arminia Bielefeld, 1. FC Kaizerslautern, Energji Kotbus, MSV Duisburg as well as PSV Eindhoven, Dinamo Zagreb and Rapid Vienna.
He played 213 First Division matches and 165 Second Division matches and was even considered for the national team at one point. He recently worked in football as a goalkeeping coach and later as a team manager at Viktoria Köln.
