Neither 5-0 from Barcelona in 2010, nor Bodo Glimt's six goals in 2021, when he was Roma's coach. Jose Mourinho has revealed the worst defeat, the one that hurt him more than any other in his managerial career in 2012.
It had to do with the elimination of Real Madrid against Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Speaking in an Amazon documentary, the Portuguese referred to that particular night, admitting it was the only defeat that made him cry.
"It was the first and last time I cried after a game. Not on the field or in the dressing room, but on the way home. And when I arrived, Jorge Mendes called me. He tells me: "Do me a favor and go to Christiano's house, because he is dead." I told him I was dead too. But I did it. I got ready, without tears, and went. He was just like me. We were both broken", said Murinjo characteristically.
Bayern had beaten Real 2-1 in Munich, but Cristiano Ronaldo's double goals in the second leg sent the match to extra time (with a 2-1 win) and then to penalties.
However, they did not appear as cool as they should have been and were beaten 3-1. They saw CR7, Kaka and Ramos miss from the penalty spot and bid farewell to the Champions League dream at the Santiago Bernabeu in their best year under Mourinho, when they also won the only championship with the Portuguese on the bench.
