FIFA, with an "iron fist", cuts the budget for the World Cup by 100

Preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, are being accompanied by a significant change in the organization's financial planning.

FIFA has decided to cut more than $100 million from the operational budget dedicated to the tournament. According to international media reports, the reduction in funding is expected to affect several key areas of the organization, including security, logistics and fan services.

However, this decision comes at a time when revenue projections for the tournament remain very high. According to projections, the 2026 World Cup could generate over $11 billion in revenue, a record for the competition.

According to The Athletic, the budget cuts are part of FIFA's strategy to direct at least 90 percent of its budget towards developing football globally. However, this approach is creating challenges for host cities.

Some of the organizational costs – such as security measures, parking arrangements or the creation of fan zones – may remain the responsibility of local authorities. As a result, some cities have begun to revise their initial plans, reducing projects or canceling secondary events related to the tournament.

The situation is also complicated by the significant increase in ticket prices. For the final match, prices have been mentioned that could reach up to $8,680, raising concerns about fan access.

Despite these developments, FIFA has stated that the budget reduction will not affect security standards or the normal development of the tournament. Around 5,000 people are expected to be engaged in organizing the 2026 World Cup.
