The clash between European and South American champions Spain and Argentina, known as the "Finalissima", may no longer take place in Qatar as originally planned. The match was scheduled to be played on March 27, but the escalation of conflict in the Middle East in recent weeks has raised doubts about its organization in the country.
In search of an alternative solution, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has proposed changing the venue for the match, while maintaining the same date. According to reports from Cadena SER, the RFEF has offered the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid as an option for hosting the match and, according to sources, the organizers have not expressed any objections.
However, other European options, such as Rome or Lisbon, are also being discussed. Despite these alternatives, UEFA considers Madrid and the Bernabeu stadium to be the most suitable choice for an event of this magnitude.
The final decision is expected to include the stance of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and CONMEBOL. According to reports from Argentina, the AFA is not keen on the match being played at the Spanish national team's stadium, as it prefers a neutral venue.
Argentine journalist Gaston Edul has announced that his country's federation does not support the idea of holding the match at the Bernabeu. However, according to UEFA sources, the decision for Madrid is seen as almost final, although it has not yet been made official and remains pending some details related to security and organization.
An additional factor being taken into consideration is the fact that a friendly match between Morocco and Ecuador is also scheduled for the same date in Madrid, which is expected to take place at the Metropolitano Stadium. This situation requires close coordination with authorities and security forces in managing two major sporting events on the same day.
Spanish authorities consider that the capital is able to cope with organizing two matches of this size, but it is emphasized that the planning and distribution of security forces must be carefully organized.
