The 3 matches of 21:00 in the Champions League are over. Real Madrid has taken an important step towards qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, after a convincing 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the match held at the “Santiago Bernabeu” stadium. The main protagonist of the challenge was Federico Valverde, who scored a hat-trick in the first half.
The first goal came in the 20th minute. After a long ball from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, Valverde dodged Nico O'Rilli, passed goalkeeper Gixxer Donnarumma and sent the ball into the net.
Just seven minutes later, the Uruguayan scored his second goal, after an assist from Vinicius Junior, doubling Madrid's lead.
Valverde completed his hat-trick in the 42nd minute, after benefiting from an assist from Brahim Diaz and a beautiful move inside the area. The first half ended with the score 3-0 in favor of Real.
In the 58th minute, Vinicius Junior won a penalty after a tackle by Donnarumma in the area, but the Brazilian failed to convert it into a goal, as his shot was saved by the Italian goalkeeper.
With this result, Real Madrid secures a considerable advantage for the return leg, which will be played in a week at the Etihad Stadium.
Meanwhile, PSG secured an important 5-2 victory over Chelsea in the first leg of the round of 16 of the competition.
At the Parc des Princes, the home team took the lead in the 10th minute through Bradley Barkola. Chelsea responded and equalized in the 28th minute through Malo Gusto.
The tie lasted just 12 minutes, as Osmane Dembele restored the advantage for PSG in the 40th minute, ending the first half with a score of 2-1 for the reigning European champions.
Early in the second half, Chelsea levelled the scores at 2-2 through Enzo Fernandez. However, PSG reacted quickly and took the lead again thanks to a goal from Vitinën.
