The 2026 World Cup is expected to go ahead as planned, despite tensions and conflict in the Middle East, said Hermo Shirgi, the operations director of the tournament, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada in June and July.
During a conference held in Dallas, Shirgi emphasized that preparations for the competition are in the final stages and there is currently no concrete risk that could lead to the postponement or cancellation of the tournament.

However, Iran's participation remains uncertain. Iranian authorities have announced that they do not intend to travel to the United States to participate in the World Cup, which could affect the team's presence at the tournament.
Despite these developments, Shirgi tried to emphasize the positive side of the competition, underlining the importance of the World Cup as a global event that brings people together from all over the world.
