The Swedish Football Association has decided not to wait until the 2026 World Cup play-offs are over and has confirmed the continuation of its cooperation with British coach Graham Potter. The coach, appointed in October after the dismissal of Jon Dahl Tomasson, has officially renewed his contract with the Swedish national team until the summer of 2030.

Potter's start as Sweden coach has not been the best. In his first two matches, the Scandinavian national team was defeated 4-1 by Switzerland and drew 1-1 against Slovenia. However, the leaders of the Swedish federation have expressed confidence in the British coach's project and the possibility of him returning the team to positive results.

Meanwhile, Sweden remains a potential opponent for Albania on the road to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The Scandinavian team is part of a mini-group in the play-off stage, where they will face Ukraine in the semi-finals. At the other end of the table, Albania will face Poland, in a duel that could determine the possible matchups in the decisive stage for qualification.
